This affiliation provides area families and their doctors with 24-hour on-site support and inpatient coverage by pediatric specialists from the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. The CHOP Inpatient Program makes the specialized pediatric care for which CHOP is known throughout the world available at Shore Memorial. Children’s Hospital pediatricians are specially trained in newborn resuscitation and stabilization, and are available to support difficult deliveries or act as consultants, as requested by a patient’s physician.

Medical conditions that previously might have required a transfer to Philadelphia now can be expertly handled at Shore Memorial Hospital, close to home.

Complementing the affiliation with CHOP is the proficiency of our highly trained pediatric nurses. As caring as they are skilled, all of Shore Memorial’s pediatric nurses are trained in Pediatric Advanced Life Support and neonatal resuscitation. Our Pediatric Care staff also has today’s highly technological equipment at its disposal. From the most advanced cardiac monitors to a ventilator exclusively designed for children… from “transilluminator” lights that help find children’s small veins to pulse oximeters that painlessly monitor blood oxygen levels, our high-tech tools are comparable to those available at major metropolitan hospitals.

“Kid-Centric” Care
At Shore Memorial’s Pediatric Care Center, we realize that caring for your child is much more than technology and skills. It requires an organization-wide commitment to making every aspect of a child’s hospital stay as positive as possible. Our Child-Life Specialist uses play therapy to help children adjust to being hospitalized and learn about their medical condition. She becomes a friend who accompanies the child into the operating room, providing a comforting and familiar face before and after surgery. A special child-friendly surgical lounge enables parents to stay with their child, during sedation and again after surgery.

The Pediatric Boardwalk - Kids Love it!
Through the eyes of a child, a hospital could easily appear to be a scary place. But the Pediatric Care Center at Shore Memorial is warm and inviting.

Designed by the Center’s nurses to minimize anxiety, it has the look and feel of the Ocean City Boardwalk. Kids love it!

Our commitment to individualized care puts your child at the center of attention. Every resource is focused on your child’s well-being, comfort and rapid healing. We’ve designed the Pediatric Care Center with children and families in mind. There are even accommodations for parents to stay overnight with their child.

Our Ronald McDonald House Charities Play Center is a cozy area filled with toys, art supplies, computer work stations, printers and comfortable furnishings where family members and patients can relax, play, be creative and even take care of business. At Shore Memorial, you can rest assured knowing that we are dedicated to helping children get well, and helping the whole family feel better, too.
