The board-certified orthopedic surgeons at Shore Memorial, supported by an outstanding team of nurses and technical assistants, have led the way in bringing these remarkable advances to all the residents of southern New Jersey.

Arthroscopic Procedures
Each year Shore Memorial surgeons perform hundreds of arthroscopic procedures to repair shoulders, elbows, wrists, knees and ankles, including ligament reconstruction and cartilage repairs typically available only at major metropolitan sports medicine centers. Shore Memorial’s facilities for arthroscopic repair include high-tech fiber optics, digital X-ray and MRI imaging.

These advanced arthroscopic procedures minimize disturbance to the joint and soft tissue, including skin and muscle, so patients experience less discomfort, scarring or long-term limitation. Shore Memorial continually introduces new and better methods of treatment – such as thermal shrinkage. This procedure uses thermal radio waves to shrink tissue in the joint, thereby stabilizing it.

Joint Replacement

Shore Memorial has been the region’s leading center for joint replacement for more than ten years. Shore has the area’s first Laminar Ultra Airflow Operating Suite, enabling our orthopedic surgeons to continuously bring cutting-edge technology to patients needing total joint replacement surgery.

Today, the procedures are so advanced, even both knees can be replaced during the same operation, and the patient is up within days. In some cases, Shore’s orthopedic surgeons can even postpone or sometimes avoid total knee replacement with a “mini-knee” implant. This remarkable advance removes very little bone, allowing the patient’s own joint to remain intact. Patients begin walking and are discharged home the same day.

Total Joint Replacement Education Program

Free educational sessions for total hip and knee replacement surgery are held on the third Thursday of each month from 4 to 5 p.m. in the hospital's Physical Therapy Department. Anyone undergoing or considering hip or knee replacement, along with their caregivers and family members is encouraged to attend one of the sessions.

These sessions will help you to better understand what to expect before,

Shore Memorial’s Laminar Ultra Airflow Operating Suite has been at the center of the region’s most advanced joint replacement program for more than ten years. This high-tech marvel uses a high velocity air filtering system to create a completely sterile operating room environment, so important in extensive hip and knee replacement surgeries. Every eight seconds the air is completely filtered, thus reducing the chances of infection and resulting complications. Surgeons wear self-enclosed full-body “space suits” for even further patient protection.
