Social Workers

Social Workers in a hospital setting provide comfort and counseling to a wide population of patients and their families.

The minimum degree for a Social Worker is a Bachelor's Degree, with a Master's Degree in Social Work as the preferred degree. The Social Worker is trained to assist individuals with a wide variety of problems, from simple to complex, possibly related specifically to a disease or diagnosis, or even in coping with day to day issues related to the care and treatment of the patient.

The Social Worker may work independently with a patient, or collaborate with a large team of caregivers to place individuals who require care beyond their hospital stay. The Social Worker may need to evaluate the psycho-social needs of the patient, arrange long term care, arrange for alternate transportation to and from treatment facilities or recommend internal and external resources to the patient and their family.
