Diagnostic Testing & Early Detection ServicesA number of diagnostic testing procedures have been pioneered in our region by Shore Memorial Hospital. Most are non-invasive procedures and all provide fast, accurate diagnostic information to your physician. Many of the services listed here are available to both inpatients and outpatients with a physician referral. Your doctor may authorize pre-admission testing on an outpatient basis to ease your first day of admission. Consult your doctor to determine the appropriate test for your needs. Call (609) 653-3555 for further information or to schedule a test. Diagnostic Imaging
Walk-ins are welcome for most exams unless insurance states otherwise or prep is necessary. Sterotactic Breast Biopsy System This system is a nominally invasive, one-step procedure where surgeons and radiologists work collaboratively to remove lesions in the breast that contain calcifications. The procedure, done under local anesthesia frequently eliminates the need for surgery. Click here for more information. Color Doppler Imaging System Shore Memorial Hospital was one of the first hospitals in southern New Jersey to employ the leading-edge Acuson color doppler unit. This system provides a window into blood vessels and internal organs for easy tracking and recording of blood flow, and improved detection of vascular disorders such as hardening of the arteries and blood clots. CT Guided Fine Needle Aspiration This procedure is used to diagnose deep tumors through the use of computer-assisted targeting techniques which allow the physician to locate and obtain sample cells for testing of abnormal growths. Cardiopulmonary Lab A non-invasive heart and lung testing center for both inpatients and outpatients providing the following services:
CT Scan ![]() Continuing to set the pace for high-tech diagnostic imaging services, Shore Memorial added a Toshiba 16-slice CT Scan unit to its lineup in 2004. Named Imaging Product of the Year in 2003 by Frost and Sullivan, a national consulting group that specializes in rating equipment for high-tech industries, the multi-slice scanner provides total body imaging to be completed in approximately 30 seconds. Multi-slice imaging also provides clear, sharper views of the body's interior than traditional CT scanners, providing your doctor with a faster diagnosis to begin your treatment more quickly.
Diagnostic Digital Radiography/ Fluoroscopy Routine X-rays are available in the hospital's radiology department and at the outpatient-testing facility in our Health & Conference Center across the street from the main building on Shore Road. Fluoroscopy procedures, myelogram and cystogram exams are performed in the hospital's radiology department. Walk-ins for routine X-rays are welcome; however, you should schedule multiple studies to avoid waiting. Fluoroscopic exams, requiring you to refrain from eating, are scheduled in the morning. Preps are provided. Myelograms, cystograms and other special studies that don't require fasting, are usually scheduled in the afternoon. Studies are coordinated to provide you with the highest quality patient care and comfort. Call (609) 653-3555
Diagnostic Women's Services – Mammography/DEXA Scans In 2002, The Shore Memorial Center for Women's Health became the first facility in southern New Jersey to offer full-field digital mammography. In 2004, our diagnostic imaging department became the first facility in the region to be accredited by the American College of Radiology for full-field digital mammography. In 2004, Shore Memorial installed CADX software to complement our digital mammography system. In addition to having at least two board-certified radiologists review your mammogram, CADX provides a third set of eyes for
Digital Subtraction Angiography This special procedures facility uses computer enhanced x-ray capabilities to "map out" the vascular system. It is used as a diagnostic aid, and to assist physicians in angioplasty procedures for the treatment of clogged arteries. Endoscopy Unit Each year this unit provides more than 5,000 endoscopic procedures - diagnostic and therapeutic services for the management of patients with gastro-intestinal conditions, such as ulcers and polyps, through the non- surgical use of fiberoptics. Bronchoscopy, urology, and cardiology services are also provided.
Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) Appointments can be arranged through your physician, or by calling (609) 653-3555. Non-Invasive Vascular Lab The non-invasive vascular lab in our CardioVascular Institute is for patients with peripheral vascular disease or renal disease who have vascular access sites in need of evaluation. This testing can determine if surgery is needed and allows noninvasive follow-up evaluation after surgery. Nuclear Medicine/Single Photon Emission Computer Tomography (SPECT Gamma Camera) Nuclear medicine covers a number of different diagnostic tests that involve the use of our highly technological gamma camera. Nuclear medicine is used to diagnose and treat conditions as well as to manage and prevent serious diseases. Tests include the following scans:• Brain • Bone • Gall bladder • Liver • Thyroid • Heart and cardiac stress
Osteoporosis Testing Dedicated to the prevention and early detection of osteoporosis, Shore Memorial Center for Women's Health offers leading-edge bone density testing technology. Called DEXA, this bone densitometer provides the most precise measurement of bone mineral density available. The key in the successful treatment of osteoporosis is to detect bone loss early so it can be treated early. DEXA also enables physicians to evaluate the patient's response to treatment. For further information call the Shore Memorial Hospital's Center for Women's Health at (609) 653-3900. Special Procedures Suite A modern angiography unit provides accurate, 360-degree detailed images of veins and arteries, and enables physicians to perform various vascular procedures which treat or repair damaged vessels without resorting to major surgery. This suite, established with the support of the Ruth Newman Shapiro Cancer and Heart Fund, complements the Vascular Care Center's extensive diagnostic and therapeutic capabilities. Ultrasound Ultrasound is a diagnostic procedure that uses high frequency sound waves to produce high quality images of soft tissue and motion within the body. Ultrasound can detect aneurysms, blood clots, damaged heart tissue, abnormal growths, diseased tissue and fetal anatomy during pregnancy. X-ray Shore Memorial has 12 diagnostic X-ray rooms throughout the hospital and portable X-ray units are available for emergency procedures and use on patient floors.
