Course Descriptions
BLS for Healthcare Providers
Description: Textbook Required. Pick up
at the Medical Library 2 weeks prior to class. No prerequisite.
This full day course is designed for professional rescuers who require
certification. This course teaches the skills of BLS for victims of all
ages, relief of foreign body airway obstruction (FBAO), use of the bag-valve
mask and the automated external defibrillation (AED). A course
completion card is issued for all participants who successfully complete
the written examination and skills demonstration
Length: 4.5 Hours
Heartsaver CPR
Description: The Heartsaver CPR course teaches CPR and relief of choking in adults and children, and infant CPR and relief of choking, and use of barrier devices for all ages.
Length: 3 hours
Heartsaver AED
Description: The Heartsaver AED Course teaches CPR, AED use, relief of choking in adults and children, and infant CPR and relief of choking, and use of barrier devices for all ages.
Length: 3.5 hours
Heartsaver First Aid
Description: The Heartsaver First Aid course teaches
how to manage illness and injuries in the first few minutes until professional
help arrives. Course content includes general principles about
medical emergencies, and injury emergencies. Optional topics include
CPR and AED, and enviromental emergencies.
Length: 7.5 hours
Advanced Cardiac Life Support
Description: Textbook Required. Pick
up at the Medical Library 2 weeks prior to class. Prerequisites
include either a dysrhythmia course completion or recent experience reading
cardiac monitors and a current BLS healthcare provider card. This two-day
course covers various dysrhythmia interventions, resuscitation of cardiac
arrest, MI and CVA patients, including medications, electrical therapy,
transcutaneous pacemaker, CPR and airway management. A course completion
card is issued for all participants who successfully complete the written
examination and mega code demonstration. American Nurses Credentialing
Center (ANCC) contact hours available for all registered nurses.
Length: 8-16 hours
Pediatric Cardiac Life Support
Description: Textbook Required. Pick up
at the Medical Library 2 weeks prior to class. Prerequisite
includes a current BLS healthcare provider card. This two-day course
has been developed jointly by the American Heart Association and the
American Academy of Pediatrics to prepare physicians, nurses, and paramedics
for the rapid assessment and treatment of the critically ill or injured
child. Strong focus is on assessment and stabilization of the infant
or child in shock, respiratory failure, and cardiopulmonary arrest using
established AHA and AAP guidelines. A course completion card is issued
for all participants who successfully complete the written examination
and code demonstration.

Neonatal Resuscitation Program Certification
Description: Textbook Required. Pick up
at the Medical Library 2 weeks prior to class. Participants
must have a current or recently expired (within past 30 days) NRP card
and a current BLS healthcare provider card. This one-day course
reviews the assessment and life support skills for the neonate (birth
to 1 month of age). Developed
jointly by the American Heart Association and the American Academy of
Pediatrics (AAP), the course provides a strong focus on the care of the
neonatal patient in cardiac arrest and resuscitation skills for the newborn. An
AAP course completion card is issued for all participants who successfully
complete the written examination and code demonstration.
Length: 14 hours
BLS Instructor Course
Description: Textbooks and facemask
included with cost of course. Prerequisites
include current BLS-HCP card, skill demonstration with Instructor potential,
application with resume and alignment with an AHA Training Center. Prior
to the course instructor candidates are required to complete the Core
Instructor Learning module and submit the completion certificate. Day
2 provides participants with the skills needed to create effective presentations
in Basic Life Support Courses to various audiences. A BLS-Instructor
and First Aid completion card is issued for all participants who successfully
complete the written examinations, skill demonstration and monitoring.
ACLS and PALS Instructor Course
Description: Textbook included. Prerequisites
include current BLS-HCP card, ACLS or PALS provider manual, skill demonstration
with Instructor potential, letter of intent with resume, letter of recommendation
from aligned training center. Prior to the course instructor candidates
are required to complete the Core Instructor Learning module and submit the
completion certificate. Day 2 provides participants with the skills needed
to create effective presentations in ACLS/PALS Courses. Contact Sabrina
