Detection

Perhaps the most important weapon in the battle against cancer is timely and accurate information. Shore Memorial’s Cancer Program is supported by the most advanced laboratory, diagnostic imaging and other cancer detection systems - nationally accredited to ensure accuracy and speed when every minute counts.

Mammography

The American College of Radiology accredits mammography services at Shore Memorial, including full-field digital mammography. The American Cancer Society recommends that women should have yearly mammograms beginning at age forty.

Colon and Rectal Cancer Screening

The American Cancer Society recommends that beginning at age 50, both men and women have a sigmoidoscopy or colonoscopy.

Cervical Cancer Screening

Every woman should have a pap test yearly, as recommended by the American Cancer Society.

Prostate Cancer Screening

The American Cancer Society believes that health care professionals should discuss the potential benefits and limitations of prostate cancer early detection testing with men before any testing begins. This discussion should include an offer for testing with the prostate-specific antigen (PSA) blood test and digital rectal exam (DRE) yearly, beginning at age 50.

Screening for the Uninsured

The CEED program provides free annual breast, cervical, prostate, and colorectal screening for the uninsured.
