Shore Memorial Hospital

The CardioVascular Institute at Shore Memorial:

Advanced Cardiac Care, Close to Home

CardioVascular Institute at Shore MemorialAt the CardioVascular Institute at Shore Memorial, a team of highly trained and experienced doctors, nurses and support staff provides comprehensive cardiovascular health services with a special emphasis on advanced diagnosis, education and prevention. The CardioVascular Institute has brought university-setting cardiac services to the community hospital environment.

Located in the Auxiliary of Shore Memorial Hospital Pavilion on the hospital’s second floor, the facility houses sophisticated technology for diagnosis and treatment of disorders of the heart and circulatory system.

Through its clinical affiliation with the nationally renowned Penn Cardiac Care program at the Penn Presbyterian Medical Center, Shore Memorial’s CardioVascular Institute has continued access to the newest advances, techniques and clinical research in the fight against heart disease.

The Penn affiliation also assures 24/7 availability for emergency transport to Philadelphia, should the need arise.

Saving lives, improving lifestyles
The CardioVascular Institute at Shore Memorial Hospital concentrates a full range of multidisciplinary services in one facility and offers the highest level of care in its low-risk diagnostic cardiac catheterization laboratory. The Institute also includes an MRI, angiography suite, vascular lab, digital ultrasound, non-invasive cardiac testing services and cardiopulmonary rehabilitation.

Our medical staff and specialized nurses and technicians use these revolutionary technologies to diagnose heart disease and treat cardiovascular conditions with the following procedures:

  • Balloon angioplasty and stenting
  • Blood clot filters
  • Central venous access
  • Diagnostic arteriography
  • Foreign body extraction
  • Needle biopsies
  • Thrombolysis
  • Uterine fibroid embolization
  • Percutaneous feeding tube placement
  • Renal and peripheral vascular interventions
  • Biliary, gastrointestinal and genitourinary interventions

Cardiac Catheterization
Shore Memorial's low-risk diagnostic cardiac catheterization laboratory brings the most sophisticated techniques to the southern New Jersey region. There, a highly skilled diagnostic cardiologist inserts a long, thin, flexible tube, called a catheter, into the body. The catheter is inserted into the vessel and directed toward the heart.  The procedure allows doctors to access how well the heart is pumping and to examine the heart valves and coronary arteries (the vessels that supply oxygen-rich blood to the heart muscle).

Cardiac cath is considered the most accurate test available for cardiovascular disease and is accomplished as a same-day procedure at the Institute.

Non-invasive Diagnostics
Other means of diagnosis and medical data collection include an array of non-invasive procedures such as stress tests, digital ultrasound, echocardiography, electrocardiography – EKG testing.  Advanced digital MRI and CT-Scan imaging technology enables early detection of aneurysm, blood clots, heart disease, stroke and other vascular problems.

The Vascular Care Center
In the Vascular Care Center, Board-certified physicians skillfully use a combination of catheters, guidewires, stents, balloons and radiological imaging technology performing various special procedures to diagnose and treat cardiovascular conditions without surgery.

Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation Technology
Shore Memorial Hospital's certified cardiopulmonary rehabilitation program provides a monitored, medically supervised program to meet the needs of the post-cardiac and pulmonary patient.  The highly trained staff of a registered nurse, exercise physiologist and respiratory therapist create customized programs to meet the physical, psychological and nutritional needs of patients recovering from cardiac or pulmonary disease. The primary goal for patients is to regain strength and confidence, and to improve their quality of life.  Secondary is preventing the progression of the disease. Through our affiliation with Tilton Fitness, our cardiopulmonary rehab patients can transition into Shore Memorial's established maintenance-level exercise program when they join the fitness center.

Education and Wellness
Prevention remains the best medicine in the fight against heart disease. Our Wellness Center and Center for Women's Health are headquarters for a variety of education and outreach programs that teach individuals to reduce cardiac risk factors through lifestyle choices in diet, exercise, stress management and smoking cessation. Area residents who are members of Tilton Fitness also have access to ongoing exercise programs, screenings and information for developing healthy lifestyles.
