Support Services for Continuing Care
The Shore Memorial cancer program mission includes a commitment
to reducing stress and discomfort - allowing the patient to focus
on healing and recovery. An important part of fulfilling that mission
is providing services beyond the clinical - building a safety net
of supportive care programs to make the healing process as stress-free
and comfortable as possible.

Look Good … Feel Better®
Look Good… Feel Better® group programs are offered at the Shore Memorial Cancer Center. These programs are free, non-medical and product-neutral programs offered in partnership with the American Cancer Society, the National Cosmetology Association, and the Cosmetic Toiletry and Fragrance Association Foundation.
At Look Good… Feel Better® people with cancer are taught to cope with skin changes and hair loss by using cosmetics and skin care products donated by the cosmetic industry. Patients learn ways to disguise hair loss with wigs, scarves, and other accessories. A free cosmetic kit is provided to each patient.
Live, Laugh, Love Boutique
The Cancer Center hosts these free programs in the Live, Laugh, Love Boutique, a beautifully designed room where patients with cancer benefit from the supportive group environment.
Together the Boutique and the program help fulfill Shore Memorial's mission to provide compassionate care for the whole person. The Cancer Center is a place where high-tech treatment combines with high-touch care to aid patients and family members in the healing process.
The Shore Memorial cancer program mission includes a commitment to reducing stress and discomfort - allowing the patient to focus on healing and recovery.
The Boutique is open Monday to Friday. Call the Cancer Center at (609) 653-3585 to schedule an appointment for a wig-fitting session. Sessions take place on the second floor of the Cancer Center and last approximately one hour.
Continuing care programs
Some forms of cancer require a life-long commitment to aggressive management.
Shore Memorial’s clinical experts help cancer patients navigate
the road ahead, helping to arrange for rehabilitation and the management of lymphedema, when needed.
Nutritional support
The cancer care team includes qualified clinical dietitians who help
patients develop healthy eating habits and manage the dietary requirements
associated with cancer symptoms, medications and treatment programs.
Social services and psychological counseling
Shore Memorial has not lost sight of the fact that stress and anxiety
often go hand-in-hand with a cancer diagnosis. You are not alone in
your fight - and trained experts are available to help manage the emotional
and psychological side effects of cancer management, for both patients
and loved ones.
Shore’s discharge planning and social services professionals also
help patients access any required after-treatment services, including home
care; physical and occupational therapy; specialized equipment and training;
and other community-based health care services.
Patient education, workshops, seminars and special events
Patients and family members dealing with cancer deserve the latest, accurate and dependable information related to cancer management.
And once the process begins, it is easy to become overwhelmed with a volume
of information available, especially in today’s real-time electronic
information age.
An ongoing program of workshops and special seminars helps patients by offering clinically accurate and scientifically
valid information about cancer management. As a member of the University
of Pennsylvania Cancer Network and several important cancer registry organizations,
Shore provides access to the very latest research-based knowledge.
Family education
The cancer diagnosis affects more than the person with the disease.
Families provide an important network of support. Family education is a key element of comprehensive
cancer care - and a variety of educational programs and services are routinely
extended to families, caregivers and loved ones.
Support groups
A variety of cancer-specific support groups meet at Shore Memorial -
and an area of the Cancer Center is set aside for just this purpose. Moderated
by experts in the field, the support group is an excellent forum to share
resources and information, meet others in the area dealing with the challenges
associated with cancer management and draw moral support. Groups are available
for cancer survivors and families.
