The University of Pennsylvania Cancer Network is a select group of community hospitals throughout Pennsylvania and New Jersey collaborating with Penn’s Abramson Cancer Center to ensure excellence in cancer care throughout the region.
The Cancer Network offers an integrated system of care between the community hospitals and Penn. This means patients receiving care at Shore Memorial have access to the latest information, techniques and treatment protocols, including Penn's extensive clinical trials program.
The Abramson Cancer Center of the University of Pennsylvania is the cornerstone of the Cancer Network, offering subspecialty care not usually available at most community hospitals, as well as the vast research and technological resources of one of the nation's foremost cancer centers.
When treatment requires a trip to Philadelphia, Penn’s specialists remain in close contact with the patient's local physicians. This close relationship between Shore Memorial physicians and Penn ensures access to the most advanced care and the best odds for success.

Clinical research
The most visible aspect of the affiliation is membership in ECOG, the
Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group. Through this relationship, Shore Memorial
physicians can offer patients access to clinical trials.
Funded primarily by the National Cancer Institute, ECOG is one of the largest clinical cancer research organizations in the United States.
A large network of researchers, physicians, and healthcare professionals at public and private institutions across the country are members of this cooperative group. ECOG members work toward the common goals of controlling, effectively treating, and ultimately curing cancer. The results of research conducted by cooperative groups, such as ECOG, are provided to the world-wide community.
Staff education
The Penn affiliation allows Shore physicians, nurses and support staff
access to continuing education programs from the University of Pennsylvania
system, one of the most respected medical universities and teaching hospitals
in the world.
