Lifetime Follow-upThrough our Cancer Registry, we are dedicated to consistent, lifetime follow-up of every cancer patient diagnosed or treated at Shore Memorial Hospital. The Cancer Registry was established in 1984 and is staffed by a full-time Certified Tumor Registrar and part-time follow-up support person. It is an important component of the Cancer Care Program and is responsible for collecting, reporting, following and maintaining the data of all cancer patients. The data collected is reported to the New Jersey State Cancer Registry – as required by law – and to the National Cancer Data Base (NCDB), as required for approval by the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer (CoC). All data is private and confidential and the Registry staff strictly adheres to hospital-wide confidentiality policies. Physicians and employees at Shore Memorial routinely utilize aggregate data for retrospective quality improvement review and initiatives as well as outcomes analysis. Additionally, SMH has participated in CoC special studies, including special research analyzing prostate and rectal data collected for the Cancer Registry. |
