Advanced Diagnostics

Perhaps the most important weapon in the battle against cancer is timely and accurate information. Shore Memorial’s Cancer Program is supported by the most advanced laboratory, diagnostic imaging and other cancer detection systems - nationally accredited to ensure accuracy and speed when every minute counts.

Early detection continues to be the key to successful treatment, and Shore Memorial’s advanced cancer diagnosis experts use leading-edge equipment and techniques to ensure the earliest possible detection - increasing the odds for successful management and recovery.

Diagnostic Imaging services include nuclear medicine, ultrasound, angiography, digital radiology, mammography, CT and MRI.

Based on the needs of the individual patient, biopsies are performed.

  • Breast biopsy
  • Stereotactic breast biopsy
  • Ultrasound-guided needle biopsy
  • CT-guided needle biopsy

Nuclear medicine offers examinations for detection and staging of cancer, including sentinel node biopsies, which are performed for breast cancer and melanoma.

The American College of Radiology accredits mammography services at Shore Memorial, including Full-Field Digital Mammography. Shore Memorial participated in the American College of Radiographic Imaging Network's Digital Mammography Imaging Screening Test (DMIST) in which 828 women participated. Mammograms are also made available to the uninsured, underinsured and low-income patients through the NJ Cancer and Early Detection Program (CEED).

The Clinical Laboratory at Shore Memorial is accredited by the College of American Pathologists and the American Association of Blood Banks. A full range of services are provided.

  • Tissue biopsies and body fluids are tested in our lab for maximum control and quick turnaround.
  • The region's only flow cytometer is available to accurately identify cancer cells and assess the degree of malignancy.

In addition to on-site services, outpatient laboratory services are also available at convenient sites in the community.
