Shore Memorial Hospital to Hold Medical Lecture on Preventing Childhood Obesity

Shore Memorial Hospital will be hosting a medical lecture about preventing childhood obesity on Thursday, March 18 at 6 p.m. The lecture will be held at Shore Memorial’s Conference Center located on the corner of New York Avenue and Shore Road.

Childhood obesity is a serious health concern and the problem is rapidly increasing. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, over the past three decades the childhood obesity rate has more than doubled for preschool children aged 2-5 years and adolescents aged 12-19 years, and it has more than tripled for children aged 6-11 years. If not looked after, a child’s weight can result in high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and Type 2 diabetes as they get older.

Dr. Magna Chang Dias, pediatrician and medical director of CHOP Newborn and Pediatric Care at Shore Memorial, will discuss issues concerning childhood obesity, including prevention and management through exercise and proper nutrition.

Admission is free. To register click here or call 609-653-3400. For more information please contact Shore Memorial’s Wellness Department at 609-653-4500.
