South Jersey's Most Modern Family-Friendly Maternity Center with the look and feel
of a Victorian Bed & Breakfast!
Shore Memorial Hospital's renowned Maternity Care Center
provides a next-century level of care for today's expectant mothers.
The
entire Maternity Care Center is designed to convey the elegance and inviting
charm of a Victorian Bed & Breakfast Inn at the shore... a relaxed
environment of extraordinary hospitality and personal service.
LDR/P All-In-One
Private Room Care...
Eleven LDR/P (Labor, Delivery,
Recovery and Postpartum) rooms and 12 postpartum mother/baby rooms
enable the new mother to receive all the services she needs right there
- in a private, relaxed environment with family around her for support.
Each
room features its own complete bathroom with all the amenities to help you feel at home. Although
it looks and feels like a luxurious inn, behind the rich wood cabinet
doors are the most advanced equipment and technology available today.
Our
delivery suites for cesarean sections are located within the Maternity
Care Center, so family members can stay close by, ready to welcome their
newest addition.
Compassion, Expertise AND Technology:
A Special Combination
Our Maternity Care Center takes pride in its outstanding ability
to combine compassionate care with clinical expertise and advanced technology. Bedside
centralized computer systems are integrated throughout the Center. Our
highly skilled nurses utilize this advanced technology for monitoring mothers
and babies, responding to any need. Focusing on individual patient needs
the whole time you are here, our staff nurtures, teaches and compassionately
cares for new families. Additionally, a 24-hour security system protects
our Maternity Care Center, giving you peace of mind throughout your stay.
Our Intermediate Neonatal Unit
with
high-tech monitoring allows very sick or special-care newborns to remain
with the mother rather than requiring transfer to another hospital.
CHOP Inpatient Program
at Shore
Memorial Hospital
Shore
Memorial's clinical affiliation with The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia
(CHOP) enables us to provide around-the-clock intermediate neonatal
nursery care. Highly trained CHOP pediatricians
and specialty nurses are on site to assist your physician with care and
consultation for difficult deliveries and complex newborn conditions.

Medical
conditions that previously might have required a transfer to Philadelphia
now can be expertly handled at Shore Memorial's Center. However, if a
more intensive level of care is ever needed, our affiliation facilitates
timely and efficient transport.
Maternal Fetal Medicine Program
During pregnancy, a woman’s medical needs are usually handled by
an obstetrician, a physician who specializes in pregnancy, labor and delivery.
However, sometimes a woman needs more specialized care than the obstetrician
can provide, and she is transferred to a maternal-fetal medicine specialist,
an obstetrician who has additional education and training in fetal medicine
and high risk pregnancies.
Shore Memorial Hospital’s Maternity Care Center’s Maternal
Fetal Medicine Program provides these expectant mothers with the specialized
care they need without having to travel to Philadelphia.
Area residents have the option of visiting Robert Debbs, D.O., a maternal-fetal
medicine specialist affiliated with Shore Memorial Hospital and the University
of Pennsylvania Health System. Dr. Debbs has an office location in Shore
Memorial’s Outpatient Diagnostic Testing Center, at 649 Shore Road,
corner of Shore Road and New York Avenue. He has office hours two Wednesdays
each month and also every Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Dr. Debbs has over 10 years of maternal fetal medicine experience and
is board certified by the American Osteopathic Board of Obstetrics and
Gynecology, Division of Maternal-Fetal Medicine.
A pregnancy is considered high risk when there are potential complications
that could harm the mother, fetus or both. Complications can exist prior
to or during pregnancy and include:
- Heart disease
- Cervical insufficiency, a weakened cervix making a woman more likely
to miscarry mid-term or have premature delivery
- High blood pressure or preeclampsia (toxemia), a form of high blood
pressure brought on by pregnancy
- Placental problems
- Multiple gestation pregnancy (twins, triplets or more)
- Diabetes or other endocrine disorders
- Infectious diseases
- Kidney or gastrointestinal disease
- Premature rupture of membranes
- Recurrent pre-term labor and delivery
- Recurrent pregnancy loss
- Congenital abnormalities (birth defects)
- Later age pregnancy

Delivering Babies, Birthing a Family
Helping families care for their newborns before and long after they have
left our Maternity Care Center is an important part of the service and
support Shore Memorial provides with each delivery. Most of our multi-specialty
nurses have more than 20 years of experience caring for mothers, babies
and new families.
Our family-centered environment focuses on teaching and nurturing families
as they develop the necessary skills to care for the new mother and baby.
Bathing,
feeding, lactation, parenting and safety are among the many topics
covered during inpatient care and classes.
Outpatient classes include
preparing for childbirth and helping get siblings ready for a new
family member.
